Umpire's decision will be final in all matters
ALL GAMES WILL START ON TIME. TEAMS MUST REPORT ATLEAST 15 MINUTES PRIOR
TO THEIR GAME. IF A TEAM IS MORE THAN 15 MINUTES LATE, THEY WILL FORFEIT
THEIR GAME.
OWING TO THE VAGARIES OF WEATHER, THERE MAY BE CHANGES TO THE SCHEDULE. IN
SUCH CASES, TEAMS MAY BE ASKED TO COMPLETE THEIR GAMES ON THE NEXT DAY.
GAMES ABANDONED IN THE MIDDLE DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER WILL BE RESUMED FROM
WHERE THEY WERE STOPPED.
All matches will be played with "taped tennis" cricket balls. We will
provide bats, wickets and balls. You may bring your own equipment as well.
The matches will be played at IF on Whitaker fields. The games will be
played as per the MCC Laws of Cricket with some exceptions. The exceptions
and other tournament rules are as follows:
1. Each team will atleast get to play 2 matches.
2. Each game shall be played between two teams of eight players
each.
3. Each game shall have a maximum of Eight 6-ball overs per side.
4. Each bowler shall bowl a maximum of 2 overs.
5. The overs shall all be bowled from one end of the pitch, as
determined by the umpires.
6. There will be no LBWs or Leg byes. If the batsman attempts to
run for a leg bye and gets run out in the process, he is OUT.
7. Umpires are instructed to apply very strict and consistent interpretation
in regard to this Law in order to prevent negative bowling wide of the
wicket.
Any offside or legside delivery which in the opinion of the umpire does
not give the batsman a reasonable opportunity to score shall be called a
wide.
A penalty of one run for a wide shall be scored. This penalty shall
stand in addition to any other runs which are scored or awarded. All
runs, which are run or result from a wide ball, which is not a no ball,
shall be scored wide balls.
The umpire shall mark with a chalk points 30 inches from the off stump
and 12 inches from the leg stump, to help make the decision easier. The
umpire has the final work on each call.
8. a. The bowler shall be limited to one fast short-pitched delivery per
over.
b. A fast short-pitched delivery is defined as a ball which
passes or would have passed above the shoulder height of the striker
standing upright at the crease.
c. The umpire at the bowlers end shall advise the bowler
and the batsman on strike when each fast short pitched delivery has
been bowled.
d. In addition, for the purpose of this regulation and subject to
clause (f) below, a ball that passes above head height of the
batsman, that prevents him from being able to hit it with his bat by
means of a normal cricket stroke shall be called a wide.
e. For the avoidance of doubt any fast short pitched delivery that is
called a wide under this playing condition shall also count as the
allowable short pitched delivery in that over
f. In the event of a bowler bowling more than one fast short-pitched
delivery in an over as defined in clause (b) above, the umpire at the
bowlers end shall call and signal no ball on each occasion. A
differential signal shall be used to signify a fast short pitched
delivery. The umpire shall call and signal `no ball' and then tap the
head with the other hand.
9. A ball shall be deemed a no-ball if:
the bowler has over-stepped the popping crease, or
the ball is a full-toss above the waist height of the batsman in normal
stance, or
the ball is at least the second fast short-pitched ball of the over (see
8.f above).
10. Substitute fielders shall be permitted, for injured players - if
they cannot return to the game. The substitute cannot bowl or bat.
Only one substitute fielder is permitted per team. The teams should
submit the playing 8 and the name of the substitute fielder at the
beginning of the match.
11. Players registered as students should present valid student ID at the
beginning of each game. In case of failure to present a valid student
ID, the player would be fined $10 to be eligible to play.
12. Each team should have at least 6 players on the field (and registered)
to begin playing a match.
13. In the event of a tied match, when both teams have an identical number
of runs at the end of the allotted 8 overs - the winner shall be
determined using the following tie-breakers
a. fewer number of wickets lost by each side
b. if still equal - higher number of runs scored at the end of the 5
over mark.
c. if still equal - fewer number of wickets lost at the 5 over mark.
d. if still equal - a coin toss.
14. Players shall be allowed to use any regulation cricket equipment
including gloves (batting and keeping), pads (leg and elbow), guards,
etc.
15. Boundaries shall be defined and explained to rival captains at the
start of every game.
16. All tournament rules are subject to change by the tournament committee
and/or the umpires.
Some MCC rules to remember:
1. Both wides and no-balls shall count as extra runs and an extra ball will
have to bowled in the over.
2. Any runs (byes, off the bat) scored off the wides or no-balls will be
credited as well.
3. A batsman can be stumped off a wide ball, or run-out off a wide or a
no-ball.
4. A ball shall be deemed a dead ball if the ball is pitched more than once
before crossing the stumps at the batsmenâEUR(TM)s end. And an extra
ball shall be bowled.
5. In a situation where the stumps are knocked down and the batsmen are
looking to run an extra run (in an over throw situation), if there is a
possibility of a run-out again - the fielders have to fix the stumps
back in an upright normal position and then knock the stumps down again.
6. Mankading-out is allowed: The bowler must take the bails off before he
is into his final stride. If he takes the bails off at the end of his
bowling action the non-striker is not out.
